Department of Physics presented its research at PSE 2026
Scientists from the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Science of UJEP attended the 20th International Conference Plasma Surface Engineering (PSE 2026) in Erfurt, Germany, at the turn of August and September. The conference, focusing on plasma technologies, surface engineering, thin films and their applications, provided an opportunity to present current research results and meet experts from different countries.
At the conference, the Department of Physics presented research focused on the preparation and characterization of ultrathin scandium and zirconium carbides, which are among the promising materials being investigated in connection with the development of new 2D materials. The research focuses on the use of magnetron sputtering for their preparation and on identifying deposition conditions that promote the formation of the desired carbide phase.
An important part of the research is also the investigation of the mechanisms responsible for carbide formation. The prepared materials are subsequently characterized in detail in terms of their chemical composition, structure, optical properties and stability.
The results presented at the conference represent part of the current research conducted at the Department of Physics in the fields of plasma technologies, thin films and advanced functional materials.
