UJEP Internal Grant Agency supports research on new hybrid nanomaterials

The project Hybrid Nanostructures of CeO₂ and Metal Carbides for Advanced Functional Materials has succeeded in the competition of the UJEP Internal Grant Agency and has received funding for the period 2026–2027. The project will be carried out by research teams led by Dr. Adéla Jagerová from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, UJEP, and Assoc. Prof. Jiří Henych from the Department of Environmental Chemistry and Technology, Faculty of the Environment, UJEP.

The research will focus on the development of new hybrid nanomaterials combining cerium oxides with ultrathin layers of zirconium and scandium carbides. The aim of the project is to gain a deeper understanding of how the interfaces between these materials influence their properties and to use this knowledge for the design of next-generation materials.

The developed nanostructures could find future applications, for example, in catalysis, the development of sensitive chemical sensors, or energy storage technologies. The project will also focus on the still poorly explored zirconium and scandium carbides, which represent promising materials with significant potential for a wide range of modern technologies.

Doctoral students and undergraduate students will also participate in the project, gaining experience in the preparation of advanced materials and the application of modern experimental methods.
