Congratulations on Success at the National Secondary School Research Competition
We are pleased to congratulate Kateřina Plíšková, a student at Jateční Grammar School in Ústí nad Labem, on her outstanding achievement in the Czech Secondary School Research Competition (SOČ).
With her project, The Ptolemaic Description of Planetary Motion and Drawing Using Fourier Series, prepared under the supervision of RNDr. Jan Dočkal, Dis., Ph.D. from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem, she advanced to the national round of the competition. There, she achieved an excellent 10th place in the Mathematics and Data Science category.
In her project, she explored the historical development of models describing planetary motion, from Ptolemy’s geocentric model to Kepler’s laws of planetary motion. She also developed her own model based on Fourier series, which can be used to describe and generate selected trajectories.
We are proud that this project was carried out in collaboration with the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. We warmly congratulate Kateřina on this excellent achievement and wish her every success in her future.
