The Department of Physics was not missing from this year’s Science Fair!

The Science Fair, organized by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic since 2015, is the largest popular science event in the Czech Republic. Visitors can learn about science in all its forms in an entertaining way. The event is traditionally attended by institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, as well as companies and universities, among which the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University and its Department of Physics were present.

Representing us at the fair were Associate Professor Martin Kormunda and Dr. Adéla Jagerová, who demonstrated experiments with vacuum. Visitors could learn whether the Magdeburg hemispheres, connected by vacuum, could be pulled apart, how the boiling point changes in a vacuum, or how the presence of air affects the speed of falling objects. Among the youngest visitors, the most popular experiment was the vacuum expansion of foam candies, which consumed 6 kg of marshmallows. In addition to the experiments, visitors could also learn about our focus and study programs not only in Department of Physics but also in other departments of our university.
